A long lens at the Zoo
Ilford HP5+ on Nikon FM2n w/Nikkor 105mm f/2 AF-DC
Sad…because I am eating dried leaves
Sad…because it’s to dry out here!
Sad…because I’m not a white bird
Sad…because I’m not the king of my pride
Sad…because I’m almost 100 years old

Majestic little box cameras
Imperial Savoy and Kodacolor II 620C, expired 11/81
I came across my Savoy in an antique store and couldn’t resist this cute little camera. I have a soft spot for 50’s-60’s plastic box cameras, and am happy to have a Savoy in my collection. The Imperial Savoy was manufactured between 1956 and 1965, by the Imperial Camera Corp. of Chicago, Illinois. All plastic, with a...

Agfa CT Precisa 100 (expired 2002) ON Canon A-1, FD 50mm f/1.4
Last month I went to a lot of gigs, and one of them featured two of my favorite local punk bands: The Garrison & Carburetor Dung. Needless to say, much of the rolls were spent on photographing them and this roll, became my absolute favorite.
I didn’t use a flash and all shots were taken under the Program...
fauxt0grapher asked: Hi, I'm very intrigued by your film soups. When you soak the film into the 'soup', do you put the film with the canister or do you open up the canister and just soak the film? Judging by the way you tell it I'm guessing you develop your own films? If so, is it still possible if I soak the film first before sending it to a film shop for d/o? Sorry if my question is so confusing....

The film soup returns!
Agfa CT Precisa (expired 2002) on Pentax ME, Zenitar 16mm f2.8 Ultra Wide Angle Fisheye
Can I be lazy tonight and just post the pictures without any blurbs? Heheh. You can click here for more info on how to make your own film soup roll.
OK, I’m gonna make things simple for those who are as lazy as me and couldn’t be bothered to read the long long write-ups so this will...

The new Holga 120 PAN camera review
Fujichrome Tungsten 64T on Holga 120 PAN
Fujicolor Superia 100 on Holga 120 PAN
My first time ever writing an article about a camera. Ever! Well there is a first time for anything right? Although it is not my first time using a Holga. Been using it since 2004 as it is one of my first real “toy camera”. The camera that I am writing about now is the new Holga 120PAN (PAN = PANorama). One...

Mirrors and Reflections
Shanghai GP3 100 on Kiev 88CM
I am a huge fan of medium format and as I progressed deeper into my experimentations with plastic cameras like the Holga and German-born Felica, I wanted to take things up one notch. Everyone’s dream medium format camera is the Hasselblad, I know, but before I ventured too far, I wanted to get a feel for the SLRs of this breed and decided to...

Kodak Film is here to stay!
After the initial scare on the Kodaktransforms webpage after doing a search for “film,”
Not Found
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.
we contacted a Kodak personnel who told us otherwise telling us that Kodak is still very much in the film business. Here is the excerpt taken from their official Facebook assuring us that they have not given up on the...

Georgetown Heritage Walk - A Report.
Fujichrome Velvia 50 (shot at 40ISO) on Canon A-1
Y’know, I’ve always wanted to re-live certain wild hobo moments in life that I can cherish its very novelty over and over again. Too bad, the incumbent reality of life won’t accommodate one’s every desire -you can’t always get what you want! Nevermind, I’ll settle for...

Ensign Ful-Vue, my new hero!
Ilford HP5+ 400ISO on Ensign Ful-Vue Box Camera
(Self-developed: Ilford Ilfotec DD-X, 1:4, 9 minutes)
So here’s the test roll for my cute frog-like vintage 1950s box camera, the Ensign Ful-Vue. This is actually the 2nd incarnation of the Ful-Vue, made in Great Britain during the post war era - its large and bright viewfinder making it one of the best cameras at it’s time....

Maybe XPro is not the way to go after all
Velvia 100 on Vredebroch Felica
Velvia 100 cross-processed is what happened to these images. At first I liked the pink hues and the somberness it left the pictures, but the more I look at them the least I like them. The first three pictures were shot under fairly bright light, it was no later than possibly 2 in the afternoon, but still the images turned out underexposed. You can see...

The Rubikon DIY Pinhole Camera
These images were shot by Czech designer Jaroslav Juřica using his own creation, a paper pinhole camera called the Rubikon. The camera itself has gone through 2 design updates with the first design released in 2005 and the latest version called the Rubikon Pinhole Rebel released in 2010. The Rebel is more user friendly and easier to build compared to its predecessor. You can download the...

Pretty in red in Valencia
Lomography Redscale XR on LC-A+
So I tried out the Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 in Valencia. It was really bright and sunny, so I mostly shot at 100 iso, the lowest that the LC-A+ can shoot at. The end results ranged from intense oranges in lower light, through to washed out bluey-greys in the midday sun. I was hoping for the rich orange effect, but actually love the grey tones too....

Film Soup : B&W roll dunked in detergent
Kentmere 100 on Nikon FG20 w/ Helios M44-2 58mm f2.0
(self-developed with Ilfotec DD-X 1+4, 10:30mins)
The results of this film soup experiment is no way as exciting as those carried out on slide film but you just have to love the old washed out look it produces on the final pictures. I have never had superb results shooting on the Kentmere because it lacks contrast and produces...

Fat rolled, again!
Kodak Portra 400UC (expired) on Diana no. 151
We already know that the Portra is an excellent color negative film, even the expired ones! The 400UC stands for Ultra Color, which gives higher color saturation than the 400VC. It was discontinued however, leaving only the NC & VC variety before Kodak developed the enhanced present emulsion of the coveted Portra 400.
I shot the...

The Magic of Instant Film
Silver Shade UV + Black Frame on Polaroid Onestep Close Up PX 600
I have to say that this is my most successful run with polaroid to date. I have gone through polaroid cameras with funky rollers that messed up my film to dried up film beyond exposure! What the Leica taught me
Fuji Acros 100 on Leica M6, Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.4
I’ve always had trouble focusing in photography, having 6 different cameras loaded with film at once and not being able to finish any one of them. Last year I came across an article online encouraging people to shoot with a single camera (a Leica), single lens, and single type of BW film...

Ghosting in photos
Fuji Velvia 100 on Holgamod 120S
Knowing when to use the BULB mode on your Holga is crucial, because when the condition is right, you can get some amazing results like in that first picture up top. The shots I took from the balcony of the Grand Central Station in New York were a mere 5-second exposure, but it is enough to capture the movement taking place on the floor and not overexpose...

(self-developed with Ilfotec DD-X 1+4, 10mins)
The images above are from the same roll I shot in Budapest at night. Using 400 film at daytime time can be tricky especially when I would open up the aperture to f/2.5 to focus and forget to bring it back down before clicking the shutter to ovoid overexposure. But that is my problem,...

From B&W to Color
We’ve all seen these photos before but never in this light. Check out these iconic photos which have been restored to color by Swedish artist Sanna Dullaway. Pretty impressive work but somehow the images in their original monochromatic glory evoke more emotion than when seen in color. Funny how our mind’s eye work. Still, it is pretty fun to go through her colored pictures, so trot...

Agfa RSX II 200 (expired) on HolgaMod 120S
delusiana and myself snagged 20 rolls of the Agfa RSX II 200 off a seller on eBay late last year knowing they all read in faded print ‘Process Before 1991.’ We were anxious about our purchase but not because we were afraid that the rolls might no longer be useable, but because we were excited to see what we would get...

First infrared attempt!
Ilford SFX 200 on Holgamod 120N
(self-dev: Ilford Ilfotec DDX, 1:4, 10mins)
Behold, my first infrared attempt! I’ve had my Hoya R72 IR filter lying around for so long but for some reason I never managed to pick it up and stuff it onto my Holga. Heheh.
It was hot but seeing the overcast sky I thought I should expose the film longer than the recommended 4-8 seconds so I...

A series of eye-opening pictures that depict the breach between poverty and privilege using children and their bedrooms as subjects. On one page you see a child beauty pageant contestant in her beautiful dollhouse room, and on the next a shabby Romanian boy who shares a mattress with his family, sleeping under not even a roof. An enlightening book with...

Looking through my waist-level finder hurts my eye
Rollei RPX 400 on HolgaMod in New York, New York
(self-developed with Ilfotec DD-X 1+4, 10mins)
After spending some more time with my HolgaMod I realized that I don’t quite fancy the optics it comes with. It still provides the curving lens distortion but it is overall just too soft for my taste. I got this HolgaMod mainly for the waist level finder (as you can see in the image...

Fake pano shots: The Ansco Pix Panorama
Fujichrome Provia 100F on Ansco Pix Panorama
The Ansco Pix Panorama is really a small plastic 35mm camera that much resembles the unassuming Vivitar UWS. It isn’t really a true panoramic camera, but instead falls into the category of “pseudo panoramic” cams. It’s essentially a normal 35mm camera that has a mask obscuring the...

The Bone Church of Kutna Hora in Prague
Kodak T-Max 400 B+W on Minolta XG-1 w/MD Rokkor 45mm f/2.0
